i think out of all of your Will Of The Wisp songs, this one is the most enveloping. i haven't been able to play the game yet but with this song alone i already feel as if i'm residing in a completely different reality. the strings are hauntingly broken, and the piano, because of its heavy pace and occasional stumbles, sounds almost mournful. when the glockenspiel enters in reverse, i feel suspended permanently in a moment preceding something unforgettable.

you've managed to capture a rare emotion in this one, a wandering, lonely, sullen feeling that i've only found in soundtracks like Hyper Light Drifter. really great work :')

Miyolophone responds:

thank you star!! this piece was the first one i made, so maybe it got the benefit of my untempered emotional energy before the exhaustion set in :')

i never really commented on how much i loved the moonflower couplet so:

i love the moonflower couplet! i love how they both take place during the only two night cycles of the EP, according to the album art. the theme seems like some sacred ritual of night, in which a magic garden awakens once the sun takes its leave, and fairies emerge from their hidden floral nooks as the air is filled with millions of tiny light pinpricks. i also love how the theme re-emerges at the very end of the EP in a simpler, reminiscent form, as if it's a lesson learned from whatever mystical events occurred in its first iteration. i love it! i love the whole EP, in fact! one could even say i love music. thank you for making it so that i can jabber on. :^)

Miyolophone responds:

yeah!!! obviously all the pieces on the EP have specific meanings to me but i don't like talking about them because i think it's more interesting to let people develop their own impressions of them. this is a really great one

thank you for the kind words :)

this is great! the pacing of this is all together unrelenting but thrilling. 0:57 made me smile :)

Miyolophone responds:

thanks star!! i love runs :)

amazing! i already told you this but your growing use of texture is much appreciated, and the time signature shenanigans are all around wonderful. the impact at 2:15 is particularly amazing, and the glassy piano delay that follows is gorgeous. i wish the drums were louder / more compressed in this section, because at the moment they almost sound like you tried to hide them, but that's really my only qualm with Zo.

great work!!!!

Onefin responds:

thank you stardew! you are a direct inspiration please know that

yea i guess i forgot to mess with the drums more, i was trying to make them sound laid back while also being really present and it wasn't happening at louder volumes, maybe next time i'll try... playing the drums slightly before the beat?

good thoughts though !

oh my GOD. this is gorgeous. GORGEOUS! simply gorgeous.

there are so many tiny nuances and audial trinkets tucked away behind the astouding vocalists and louder instruments (like the sineish bloops in the background at 3:44 that i'm assuming are a reference to the scary heartbeat bit from earlier but this time the heartbeat comes from excitement, or the thunder paired with the very pretty chord at 2:10, or the wonderful dialogue bit at 5:14) that i'm sure i'll never find, but i had to express how much i love this song at some point, despite not discovering all of these easter eggs, so here you are : )

GORGEOUS!!!

Miyolophone responds:

this is the one i really want to do a track walkthrough for because you're right, there are SO MANY EASTER EGGS and details that no one will ever find

thank you for the kind words!!!

such a good piece! i like to think of the daintier, more choreographed / composed parts as the "royal" sections, and the wilder, more freeflowing parts with booming drums and bombarding string melodies as the "Azalea" sections (although, when googling the history behind the Azalea flower, its symbolism doesn't seem to match my theory).

in addition to the aforementioned contrast, i can tell you were really careful with the production in the louder sections of this song, and while i noticed a few off-putting compression bits, i think you did a really nice job.

also, i've just looked up the Royal Azalea Festival mentioned in the description, and it's provided me with another interesting bit of imagery to pair with this song. great work!!

Miyolophone responds:

thank you stardew! mixing & mastering this one was a horrible task and i ended up resorting to a sort of pseudo-sidechain mechanism, which may not have been the best solution. we'll get 'em next time

glad you enjoyed :)

I Love This So Much But I Have Never Left A Review So Here Is A Review:

i love how this matches with the story. it really gives the song an atmosphere that it wouldn't quite have without it. the slowed break at ~2:25 is gorgeous. as the song starts speeding up again, a gentle re-invigoration presents itself, before fluttering down into pensive vibraphone chords. the piano outro somehow fits really well (like really well but in a weirdly really well way) despite my brain telling me it shouldn't, and i love it; it sounds like that one Starbound track that i have never been able to find.

that is all! i hope me expressing my love for this song for like the 3rd time or something brings a bit of joy into your day.

Onefin responds:

hi shootingstardew! thank you sire

the story was mainly an afterthought but it just sort of felt right. there are very few stories out there about a windup toy fox

and the only reason the piano outro is there is to make the final part of the story make sense in miyo's world

ah heck it's been such a long time since i've seriously contemplated the gratitude that made this particular piece thank you for reminding me of it

great stuff! very groovy. think everything could generally be a bit louder, because it was a little hard to hear, but otherwise good work!

vocaloutburst responds:

Thanks so much dude, glad you enjoyed it!!! Also, YOUR TRACK WAS INCREDIBLE!!!

amazing!
